Born and raised in Monterrey, Mexico, Melissa began dancing at the age of 3. She took ballet, jazz, and tap lessons for over 20 years. While growing up, Melissa participated in several Joe Tremaine competitions where she won 1st and 2nd places for Tap and Jazz performances.
At the age of 14, she became a ballet teacher for children and later taught dance and performing arts at the English Through the Arts School in Monterrey, Mexico. There, she directed numerous Spring recitals and shows, putting together choreographies for children ages 3 to 12.
After finishing her B.A. in Communications, Melissa moved to San Diego where she continued taking dancing lessons while simultaneously attending the gym.
Her Latin background and love for dance and fitness attracted Melissa to ZUMBA Fitness. She is now certified in ZUMBA Basic I, and Zumbatomic (for kids).
Ever since she became a ZUMBA Instructor, Melissa has found ZUMBA to be a fusion of her favorite things in life which are dance, music, and fitness.
She is very happy to be spreading the love for ZUMBA not only because it’s a great way of keeping in shape but it’s a fun way of spreading enthusiasm and love for life.
In every class, her goal is to have students that come in with a frown, leave with a smile.
