Erica Patmon has extensively studied and competed in several disciplines including jazz, tap, ballet, and hip hop since the age of three, winning top ranking and overall honors in Solo and Group categories at several National Dance Competitions, including KAR, Showstoppers, Showbiz, and more. During her dance career, Erica has had the opportunity to train with several well-respected and notable instructors such as Dee Caspary, Dennis Caspary, Tina Caspary Cyphert, Joe Tarwater, Kevin Hermann, Katie McIver, and our very own (and one of her favorites) Louis McKay.
Erica earned an athletic scholarship to San Diego State University, and was captain of the SDSU Cheer Squad, as well as Dance Team, where she graduated with a degree in Sociology. She was named Rookie of the Year as a freshman, and MVP of her senior season. After graduating from college, Erica excelled in the collegiate dance circuit, coaching and choreographing for several Division I nationally ranked college dance teams.
Erica has also been very fortunate in her professional career as to be able to combine her love for sports with her passion for dance. She has danced, coached, and choreographed for several professional dance teams in the NFL, NBA, AFL, and ABA. She also starred in a MLB All-Star game halftime show, and in two NFL Superbowl productions. Erica can be seen in national commercials for ESPN, NFL Films, MTV, and in the blockbuster film hit “Bring It On”. Additionally, she has back-up danced for several musical acts ranging from the Beach Boys, to rapper/entertainer Kurupt, to Dru Hill singing sensation Sisqó.
Erica made the jump from dance performance to dance instruction nearly nine years ago, and it has been one of the most rewarding facets of her life. By day, she is a department manager for the San Diego Chargers; and devotes a majority of the rest of her time to her love and passion for dance. Her instruction and choreography has earned prestigious awards and top honors at numerous major national competitions. “I am so blessed to be able to do what I do. My “kids” and their families, along with the opportunity Louis and Tanya have given me to be a part of this wonderful NCDA family, mean the absolute world to me.”
