North County DanceArts, Inc. is dedicated to the care and nurturing of the dedicated dance student. Tuition for classes at North County DanceArts, Inc is an annual (school year September through August) tuition policy that may be paid in full at time of student enrollment (an approximate 8% savings and no worries of late fees) or on a monthly payment system. Annual tuition is based on a tuition that is amortized over eleven months, each month averaging four weeks.
Monthly tuition payments are due before the 1st day of each calendar month. A late charge of $15.00 will be assessed after the 10th day of the month against the current tuition due and any previous outstanding balances. NORTH COUNTY DANCEARTS, INC. recognizes that some months will provide the student with five weeks of instruction for the month. These additional days afforded by the calendar year will not be charged as extra classes to the student and will be included in that month’s monthly tuition. However, NORTH COUNTY DANCEARTS, INC. DOES NOT PROVIDE MAKE-UP CLASSES FOR THOSE “EXTRA” CLASSES DUE TO STUDENT NON-ATTENDANCE.
The NCDA annual tuition is a long term payment policy. Students electing to pay in monthly installments must continue to pay monthly for the remainder of the dance year scheduled payments (September through July). North County DanceArts, Inc. does not invoice except in cases where account is delinquent. Acceptable forms of payment are cash or personal check only.
Any student wishing to discontinue dance instruction during the year may do so by notifying North County DanceArts, Inc. in writing on or before the 10th day of the calendar month and before the last quarter of the dance year, thereby releasing the student from further tuition obligations. Students shall be responsible for the balance of the annual tuition if discontinuing services in the last quarter (June-August) of our dance year. No exceptions will be made. For those students electing to discontinue dance instruction and thereby terminate the tuition contract prior to final payment (July) in any given dance year, it is assumed that the student will not be returning to NCDA for dance instruction. Any student returning to NCDA after termination of tution contract in any prior dance year, will be obligated to ‘pay out’ prior contract terms before enrolling in any NCDA class.
Classes may be made up within 30 days of a missed class, but may not be applied to future tuition or transferred to another student. Missed classes may be made up in any dance class of any discipline as long as the student stays within his/her dance level (i.e.: ballet, jazz, tap and pre-dance). Since NORTH COUNTY DANCEARTS, INC. provides a monthly tuition payment plan in an effort to provide the student the opportunity to dance at a discounted rate, we do not guarantee that make-up classes in any one discipline will be available. It is the student’s responsibility to account for time away from dance instruction such as leaves, vacation, work schedules, etc. Tuition is non-refundable, no exceptions.
NORTH COUNTY DANCEARTS, INC. will be closed on major holidays as outlined in our brochure. Since the calendar year provides the student with a yearly total of 22-24 free classes per year, NORTH COUNTY DANCEARTS, INC. WILL NOT EXTEND TUITION CARDS OR MAKE UP CLASSES FOR CLOSURE AT THESE HOLIDAYS.
Tuition for all NEW students to NORTH COUNTY DANCEARTS, INC. will be prorated on an individual basis as necessary. Monthly tuition will not be prorated at any other time for any reason. Annual Registration/Insurance fees are charged per student and are due upon initial enrollment and each year in January. Annual Registration/Insurance Fees are due in January for all students registered in classes prior to October 1st and all new students registering after January 1st. Our weekday morning adult students may elect to pay “by the class” (only in open adult classes scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursday,Friday and Saturday mornings with exception to classes that may “close”). Adult students that elect to pay “by the class”for these morning open classes may not attend any other classes on a “by the class” basis. NCDA also offers an Unlimited Tuition Plan for Adult Mornings. See Tuition Rates for more Information.

The ballet syllabus currently offered by North County Dancearts is a condensed and accelerated course of study of ballet based on the classical Russian school of training. This course of study has been developed to give the dancer a good basic knowledge in the principles, techniques and terms of this dance form. These courses have proved excellent for beginning dancers through professional levels. Many class levels have been recommended to ballet students as companion
classes to their current ballet studies.
All ballet classes are technique based classes, therefore, soft slippers are used. Due to the nature of the accelerated study, pre-pointe and pointe instruction is only offered as a standard part of this ballet syllabus in levels IIB through IIIB. Only those students in current attendance of regular ballet studies of North County DanceArts in a level IIB or above or in current attendance at any certified ballet school will be considered to use pointe shoes in these intermediate/advanced classes. Those students meeting the qualifications to study pre-pointe and/or pointe is at the sole discretion of North County Dancearts’ instructors and/or directors. Placement and advancement of any student is at the sole discretion of North County Dancearts, Inc.
Tap dancing combines dance traditions from Europe and Africa. It is a dance of strong rhythms and relies almost totally on footwork. The feet become musical instruments marking out complex rhythms with the heel and the toe.
Tap dancing taught at North County DanceArts concentrates on the low to the ground and precise style of tap called “rhythm tap”, largely made infamous through the old masters of tap such as Eddie Brown. Since the teaching of tap dancing can vary greatly in style and speed, all students not currently enrolled in the North County DanceArts tap classes are required to be evaluated by the instructor prior to entry. Placement and advancement of any student is at the sole discretion of North County DanceArts, Inc.
Contemporary dance is a genre of concert dance that employs compositional philosophy, rather than choreography, to guide un-choreographed movement. It uses dance techniques and methods found in ballet, modern dance and postmodern dance, and it also draws from other philosophies of movement that are outside the realm of classical dance technique.
The term “contemporary dance” is sometimes used to describe dance that is not classical jazz or traditional folk/cultural dance. The hallmark of contemporary dance is an awareness of the limitations of form. Sub-genres recently defined by dance critics include non-dance, conceptual dance and pedestrian contemporary.
Hip Hop dance refers to non-classical dance styles, mainly street dance styles, primarily danced to hip hop music, or that have evolved as a part of the hip hop culture.
By its widest definition, it can include a wide range of styles such as breaking, popping, locking and krumping, and even house dance. It can also include the many styles simply labeled as hip hop, old school hip hop (or hype), hip hop new style and freestyle.
Pre-dance classes are designed for children from the age of 3 years to 7 years of age. Pre-dance classes are combination classes that teach basic dance positions, steps and exercises of the three dance disciplines: ballet, jazz and tap.
North County DanceArts provides pre-dance classes that accommodate the readiness of the student to learn. The very basic of the pre-dance classes begin with a minimal structure base with subsequent pre-dance classes of graduating advancement of classroom structure and discipline.
The most advanced pre-dance level , kindercombo, is a structured and disciplined learning environment designed to take the young dancer into beginning levels with recognition of basic steps and terms . Basic steps, exercises and terms are taught in a loving, fun and playful way.
All students of ages 6 years to 8 years wishing to enter the North County DanceArts dance program at the beginning levels are highly encouraged to complete North County DanceArts’ pre-dance courses prior to enrollment. Placement and advancement of any student is at the sole discretion of North County DanceArts, Inc.
The jazz syllabus is an extensive study in the dance form and prepares the student for performance. Each class is geared specifically toward the respective levels, each focusing on the technique of the dance form. Most jazz classes dedicate the first six months solely to dance technique while the remaining six months of the dance year focuses on putting technique and applications into a dance combination.
Due to the ballet origins of jazz technique, all jazz students of levels II and above are required to maintain at least one hour of ballet training per week. Ballet requirement may be fulfilled in scheduled NCDA ballet classes or at any accredited ballet school. (see studio policies regarding ballet requirements and validation). Noncompliance with this ballet requirement will result in the withdrawal of the student from any jazz II level class and above until ballet requirement has been met and student is in regular attendance. Placement and advancement of any student is at the sole discretion of North County Dancearts, Inc.
Tribal Style Belly Dance is accredited to Jamila Salimpour who fostered a fusion of costumes and folkloric dance styles from the Banjara gypsies of Rajasthan and began teaching what she knew and performing all over California and the West Coast. Using traditional folkloric dance elements and costumes inspired by traditional and ethnographic traditions, she presented on stage through Bal Anat a colorful dance company which included musicians, singers and dancers to create a “souk” or almost circus feel. Taking what she herself had learned
from native dancers from Morocco, Algeria, Turkey, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon who were dancing in the United States, she began to catalogue “belly dance movement” and began creating a basic repertoire terminology which is still the basis for Tribal Style and American Tribal Style repertoire.
Tribal Style today represents everything from Folkloric inspired dances to a fusion of ancient dance techniques from North India, the Middle East and Africa. As a general category, Tribal Style covers many flavors of American Belly Dance both the folkloric inspired like Dalia Carella and fusion and cross over styles which explore modern, jazz, dance theatre, and hip hop with belly dance, as well as fusion with traditional classical ethnic dance forms like Bhangra, Bharata
Natyam, Flamenco and now even Polynesian and West African Dance.
According to Moria Chappell, a well-known Tribal dancer, Tribal differs from ballet, jazz and modern in its extreme emphasis of core muscle isolation (especially in the abdomen, pelvic girdle, and thoracic spine) and lack of hard impact moves. Because of the greater emphasis on muscular isolation than skeletal virtuosity, Tribal dance is accessible to people with a wider range of body types, ages, and health problems than many classic theater dance arts.
Zumba Fitness is the only Latin-inspired dance-fitness program that blends red-hot international music, created by Grammy Award-winning producers, and contagious steps to form a “fitness-party” that is downright addictive. As a fitness instructor in his native Cali, Colombia, Beto’s life took an unexpected turn one fateful day in the mid-’90s when he darted off to teach an aerobics class and
forgot his traditional aerobics music. He improvised using his own mix of music from tapes he had in his backpack (salsa and merengue music he grew up with). Spontaneously he created a new kind of dance-fitness, one that focused on letting the music move you (instead of counting reps over the music). Energy electrified the room; people couldn’t stop smiling. His class loved it! And on that day, a revolutionary new fitness concept was born – the Zumba Fitness-Party.
Dancer Body Conditioning, Turns and Leaps is a technique based class that focuses in increasing the individual dancers’ flexibility, strength, stamina and concentrating a technique specifically related to various turns and leaps determined by dance level.

Our weekday morning adult students may elect to pay “by the class” (only in open adult classes scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings with exception to classes that may “close”). By paying “by the class” you are not making a monthly commitment to classes and are free of the worries of “make-up” classes and studio closures. Adult students that elect to pay “by the class”for these morning open classes may not attend any other classes on a “by the class” basis. For all classes, with the exception of the adult open classes noted above, students must be “registered” and pay per North County DanceArts, Inc.’s Tuition Policies and Rates.
In order to maintain the highest level of dance instruction, it sometimes becomes necessary to limit the number of students per class or “close” the class. This means that any student not in current and consistent attendance in that class prior to the “closed” status may not be able to participate until space becomes available.
IMPORTANT: Students attending a “closed” class must be registered for that class and maintain monthly tuition payments for that class. If you wish to preserve your spot in that class, monthly tuition must continue to be paid – even if you do not attend.
North County DanceArts and its staff and instructors reserve the right to remove any individual from a dance class or the studio premises if that individual’s behavior is disruptive and not conducive to the learning atmosphere of the studio.
Comfortable clothing, sneakers (t-shirts with messages that are gang related, ethnically, religiously or racially derogative in nature are unacceptable for dance class. The acceptability of any and all logos, messages or slogans are at the sole discretion of NCDA directors, staff and/or instructors. Anyone wearing unacceptable forms of clothing will be asked to leave the studio premises immediately) Thank you for your cooperation. We feel this will enhance our dance program and give each and every dancer a sense of pride and organization to be the best dancer he/she can possibly be.
Class observation in the studio is permitted only on the last class of the month. During the month, feel free to watch the class from outside or from the lobby.
An annual recital will be given and all students are invited to participate. It is not mandatory and a minimal recital fee per participant is charged. All registered students participating in the annual recital must be current in annual tuition (September through and including August) prior to ticket sales. Any student not current in tuition for the referenced dance year will not be able to participate in the recital, regardless of any costs incurred by student, including but not limited to, recital fees, costume fees, photographs etc.
